Community Howard Regional Health System can help you learn how to manage your diabetes through educational programs and access to hospital and community resources and support groups. The hospital's Diabetes Program staff consists of a diabetes nurse educator, registered dietician, certified social worker, and a counselor.
Out-patient Diabetes Education sessions are held at the Diabetes Office on the Main Campus. These sessions provide the opportunity to understand your diabetes. They are available in the daytime. Family and friends are welcome to attend classes with you. In these sessions you will learn about:
A physician's order is required for these sessions, and Medicare, Medicaid, and most insurance companies will cover them. However, some insurance companies may require pre-certification or pre-authorization. Contact the Nurse Educator at 765-453-8369 for questions you may have about insurance coverage. Self-pay is also accepted, and a payment schedule may be arranged by contacting the Patient Finance department at 765-453-8422.
A Diabetes Education Series is offered quarterly. Additionally, special programs for children with diabetes will be held periodically. Guest speakers will cover various topics, for example, information on the latest diabetes supplies, equipment and medications with treatment options, just to name a few.
